The Central Garage Group of Companies is a group of franchised and non-franchised dealerships, who sell and repair cars and motorbikes. In 2019 the group works with 12 franchises in 5 locations with 8 limited companies. The group is privately owned by the Hamblin family, which was originally founded by Bob Stanley Hamblin post WW2. The Uppingham site is the original dealership Bob left to his son Peter, who then went on to grow the company over the decades changing the automotive focus from haulage to cars and motorbikes. Peter’s daughter Sam joined the company in the late 1990s and took over the reins in 2015. In 2003 Peter and Sam Hamblin secured the Harley-Davidson and Buell franchises for the Uppingham site and together with Andrew Winham, they introduced the first motorbike franchises to the group. Sycamore Harley-Davidson went on to win two gold awards from Harley-Davidson UK and a management award from the Chartered Management Institute. The team in Uppingham continue to be considered one of the best Harley-Davidson dealerships in the country. In 2019 Sycamore Motorcycles grew again with the addition of the BMW Motorrad and Royal Enfield franchises at a new site in Peterborough. The long-established Balderston family business had been in the motorcycle business for over 140 years and due to retirement their business has now joined the Sycamore Motorcycle group.
